WHAT'S NEW December 01, 2008

Much awaited Ministerial Instructions announced

The Ministerial instructions authorised under the Canadian government's controversial new immigration Bill C-50 were announced on Friday last week.

Applicants who have experience in one of the 38 occupations included in the instructions, will find their immigration applications being accepted for processing, whereas other applicants will find that their applications and the fee are being returned to them, without any processing.

"We expect new federal skilled worker applicants, including those with arranged employment, to receive a decision within six to 12 months compared with up to six years under the old system," said Minister Kenney.

The instructions are being applied retroactive to February 27, 2008, the date specified by the Federal Budget.
