BUSINESS IMMIGRATION Entrepreneur Program
Entrepreneurs are businesspeople who are successfully operating a business; have sufficient net worth to invest in a business in Canada; and undertake to establish a business in Canada.
Entrepreneur category offers a conditional status in Canada i.e. there are conditions that must be met in order to finalise the status.
Federal Entrepreneur program has following requirements:
- Minimum net worth of CDN$300,000
- Minimum 2 years of business management experience within last 5 years with a 'qualifying business'
- invest or be willing to invest a minimum of CDN$ 100,000 to acquire or create a business in Canada
- must own minimum 25% equity in the above business
The Federal Entrepreneur program has defined 'Qualifying Business' on specific criteria like Net Assets, Annual Sales, Prfits and no. of employees. The business has to meet the minimum criteria in order to be considered as a Qualifying business.
The federal Entrepreneur applicant is then assessed on a points table, and is approved only on achieving the pass marks.
After the successful immigration, the Applicant must satisfy 'conditions' within 3 years of arrival for at least 1 year, by establshing a 'Qualifying Canadian Business'
which again meets certain criteria which are similar to the ones above. In addition to the criteria for the business, the applicant must also meet the following conditions:
- own a minimum 25% equity in the business
- employ at least 1 person (other than self and family members)
- participate in daily management of business
While there is no minimum investment amount set out in the regulations, substantial investment is required in order for the Canadian business to reach the 'Qualifying' level.
The family members of the entrepreneur are als subject to the applicant meeting the conditions.
