LIVE-IN CAREGIVER Job Duties
Primary duties
- Supervision and care for children
- Bathe, dress and feed infants and children
- Sterilize bottles, prepare formulas and change diapers for infants
- Oversee activities such as meals and rest periods
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals for the children, at times for the whole family
- Instruct children in personal hygiene and social development
- Tend to emotional well-being of children
- Other activities for children – Sports, entertainment and theatrical
- Read to children, organize activities such as games, outings for children, prepare craft materials and help children to use them, painting, take them to and from school, babysitting, etc.
- Assume full responsibility for household in absence of parents
- Keep records of daily activities and health information regarding children
- Travel with family on trips and assist with child supervision and housekeeping duties
- Willingness to do shift work and also overnights and weekends
Secondary duties:
- Light house keeping – cleaning/dusting, wash and iron clothing and household linens, dishwashing (most households have automatic washer and dryer, even dishwasher – the work is not heavy, nor it is time consuming)
- If needed, work in the garden, wash the cars, etc
In practice, the primary and secondary duties are likely to overlap. As a caregiver candidate, you should be prepared to undertake the above duties.
